We left Dothan, Alabama around 8am and headed north to Tennessee. Alabama is a gorgeous state. A true gem of thesouth. We encountered alot of road construction and speed limit fluctuations along the way, but all in all, an enjoyable ride. We crossed the state line into Tennessee and the scenery just got prettier.
While approaching Nashville, our driving app said there was an accident up ahead and if we take a suggested detour, we could save 17 minutes. What a crock of shit! It added about another hour and a half onto the trip. But we did get to see some pretty cool neighborhoods in the area surrounding Nashville. We finally arrived at Ted and Sandy's house around 4pm.
Ted, of course , was waiting with cold beer and rolled up goodness. It was like we just hung out with each other yesterday and not 20 years ago. Nothing better than good, old friends. Then Ted made linguine with white clam sauce with fresh out the box clams from Maine that his sister had sent for his birthday. And giant steamed shrimp. It was so good and I ate twice as much as I probably should have.
After dinner we went to a place called the hardware store, which is a hardware store with a stage in tge middle of it with seating. We watched 3 singer songwriters trading off songs for the crowd. Mostly religious tunes they've written. All very talented musicians. Then we drove to downtown Nashville to see the skyline at night. Very scenic place to be. We drove down Broadway st. And on a Thursday night it looked like Las Vegas meets Key West. Bars, people, cars, musicians, neon everywhere. Very different than what I expected.
We went to East Nashville to a little bar called the Hubba Hubba Tiki Tonk. Pretty unique looking place with random music, Hollywood, cartoons and toy memorabilia covering every square inch of the place. Really good drinks.
So we got back to the house around 10pm tonight and we are whooped. Been a long day in the car. Tomorrow is Teds birthday and if I know him, it's gonna be a marathon. So I'm going to bed and getting some rest. Until tomorrow.......
